Be BOLD! Be BRIGHT! And SPEND Right Q & A w/ Ask Tracy

Fall is fast approaching! I know, where does time go? Although I would never wish summer, away …  I ABSOLUTELY LOVE FALL! When fall comes, I am ready. Fall is also my favorite season to purchase new wardrobe pieces.  Sadly, with all the expenses that I have, my budget cannot afford the luxury of splurging on an entirely brand new and seasonably appropriate wardrobe. I am sure many of you can relate. This means we have to get creative and make the most of our resources. You don’t have to drop a ton of money to look great!

This brings me to two questions I recently received on my ‘Ask Tracy’ form. The two questions were almost identical. They were sent in by Kim and Haley. Here is the question: What do you consider a good or optimal price per wear, when it comes to purchasing a piece of clothing or accessory?

Great question, Ladies! I actually talk about ‘Cost Per Wear / Price Per Wear’  in my recent video 7 Savvy Shopping Tips. I cannot give a certain dollar amount as we all have a different budget to work with. For myself, and I talk about this in the video … it boils down to trendy pieces vs. classics. If something is classic and will stay the course, I will be more inclined to splurge. Look at the log average of a classic vs. a trendy piece …  hence, price per wear. This means the piece is a good Return on Investment.

If we are talking about a seasonal trend, on the other hand …. I will look for a good deal, or shop a trendy discount store. Stores like Forever 21 or H & M. I also love T.J. Maxx. T.J. not only carries affordable trendy pieces … but designer classics, as well. You can also resource trendy and classic pieces for rent. Check out  Rent The Runway. It’s not only dresses, Ladies. You can get fun tops, jumpsuits and lots of trendy accessories. I just recently dipped my toes in. I definitely can see myself utilizing Rent The Runway, again.

Lastly ….

Only Buy Pieces You Truly Love This is probably the BEST tip for saving money. Just because that floral top is marked down 70 percent doesn’t mean you need to buy it, at least not unless you really, truly LOVE it. Budget-minded shoppers often make the mistake of feeling like they can’t pass up a good sale, but spending any amount of money on something you don’t LOVE is wasteful spending. When You’re out shopping for new pieces to add to your fall wardrobe, feel free to skip past anything that you don’t love. A good rule of thumb is to never buy something you wouldn’t pay full price for. What generally works for me is if I am on the fence about a particular item, I probably don’t truly LOVE it. Therefore I won’t purchase it. However, if I keep thinking about that piece as I continue my shopping, I may go back and re-access it. This is when having a ‘NEEDS’ list comes in handy. If your on a ‘tight’ budget, you shouldn’t be looking at pieces that aren’t on that list in the first place.

Thanks for your question, Ladies!
