Holiday Etiquette 101: Mind Your Mouth, Not Their Meal

As we head into the holidays, let me offer you a little reminder that will save you and everyone around you a whole lot of unnecessary discomfort: mind your mouth, not their meal. Truly, there is nothing life-affirming or fruitful about commenting on what someone else chooses to eat—or not eat. Those comments are almost always rooted in comparison or insecurity, and they add zero value to a gathering meant for joy, fellowship, and connection. If you’re on the receiving end, let it go. You don’t owe anyone an explanation for the choices you make for your own body. And if you’re the one tempted to say something… pause. Ask yourself what’s really behind that urge, and steward your words wisely. Our conversations should bear fruit, not pick apart someone’s plate.

This season, let’s show up polished, poised, and focused on what actually matters: gratitude, good company, and conversations that honor the people we love.
